What is the Visible pledge?

The Visible pledge is a commitment to work on at least 1 pro-bono project (of any size) per year over the next four years. The pledge was born on on Inauguration day; January 20th, 2017.

It's never too late to take the pledge.  Join us!

What are the requirements for submitting a project?

In order for a project to qualify for free creative services from Visible, a project must meet at least 2 out of the following 3 criteria:

1. The project is for a marginalized or underserved community, whose rights and freedoms are threatened by the current US administration.

2. The project is for a non-profit organization, charitable cause, or not-for-profit grassroots organization in need of creative services, but unable to access these resources due to a limited budget.

3. The project is for a resistance effort with a portion of proceeds being donated to a charitable organization.

Why did you change your name from Indivisible to Visible?

You know about the Indivisible Guide, right? The national organization supporting local advocacy through demystifying the legislative process? We love them. They are doing such important work. But we're not them, and with their organization becoming increasingly ubiquitous, things were getting confusing.

So, we decided to change our name to Visible. We're on the same mission to support vulnerable and underrepresented communities and causes. The name reflects the work.

We encourage you to visit the Indivisible Guide website to download their guide to resisting the Trump agenda.

I just signed up. When will my profile be featured on your site?

Welcome! Our HQ support volunteers enter new profiles into the site weekly, so you should see your profile appear within a week. If you don't see it within one week, please send us an email to make sure we received your information.

I’m a freelancer. Which Visible projects can I work on?

All projects with multiple components (branding, messaging, interactive, etc...) require the management of a Studio Partner or qualified senior freelancer. These projects are marked "Open to Studio Partners" in the main description. If you are a mid-level freelance Visible member interested in working on one of these projects, please email us and we can connect you to the Studio Partner who takes it on. If they like your work and need your skills, they may contact you to work on a component of the project.

Projects with isolated components, or those that do not require Studio Partner or senior level expertise - for instance, design collateral for established brands, SEO, copywriting for events, social media, or coding - are marked "Open to freelancers or Studio Partners." We encourage mid to senior-level freelancers with experience working with clients to apply for these projects.

If you're a junior-level member without professional freelance experience looking for a project, please check back often. We are actively seeking project opportunities such as poster or t-shirt designs and submissions for artwork or illustrations to promote a resistance effort that do not require experience working with clients or the effort of a team. We hope to offer more opportunites like this as our network and outreach efforts grow.

In order to fulfill their pledge, members are also encouraged to reach outside of the Visible network and offer their services directly.

All Visible projects must include a contract that includes clearly defined processes, timeline, and a finite scope of work to make sure that the experience is positive, beneficial, and fair for everyone.

Please note: Indivisible is not responsible for any projects completed or in progress without the involvement of The Beauty Shop or one of our Studio Partners.

How can studios and agencies participate?

Studios and agencies are welcome and encouraged to participate in a number of ways:

1) Become a Studio Partner

Take on a Visible pro bono project and complete the work with your existing studio team, or oversee and direct a team of our volunteer members.

2) Become a sponsor

You can support our work to provide free creative services to organizations in need through a tax-deductible donation here. When you make a donation over $500, we'll feature your logo on our about page and recognize you as an official Visible sponsor.

How are members
connected with Studio Partner projects?

If you are interested in working on a Studio Partner project, please email us and we can connect you to the Studio Partner who takes it on. If they like your work and need your skills, they may contact you to work on a component of the project.

If I’m selected for a project with The Beauty Shop or a Studio Partner, do I work remotely or in the studio?

Processes and requirements may vary from one Studio Partner to the next. While we leave the particular arrangements and communication methods to be defined by project volunteers and their Studio Partners, we do encourage in-person critiques and a hands-on approach to creative direction between both parties.

Is anyone excluded from participating? Are there minimum portfolio requirements?

Visible does not exclude anyone from being able to participate by taking the pledge. Our structure places The Beauty Shop and our Studio Partners in charge of determining appropriate volunteers for each Visible-managed project, however, all members are encouraged to do what they can to help organizations in need. We believe that there is room for everyone to make a difference, regardless of level of experience. Visible is intended to be a space to connect members of the design community across all disciplines and expertise in order to do more good.

What types of disciplines can take the pledge?

Our alliance includes copywriters, photographers, filmmakers, project managers, SEO specialists, developers, illustrators, artists, type designers, social media specialists, and more. If you have a skill that can help an organization or cause, we welcome you.

Not all of your projects are for 501c3 nonprofits. How is donating work to them different than working for free?

Many of our organizations listed are small grassroots organizations or startup charities and efforts that, while not technically 501(c)(3) nonprofits, are doing work to help underrepresented groups in their community, or are a resistance effort. Before Visible commits to promoting a project to our members, we evaluate the causes and groups the project serves to determine whether or not to donate our skills and time. We encourage you to do the same when deciding whether or not to take on a pro bono project outside of our network.
